"I will praise thee; for I am fearfully and wonderfully made: marvelous are thy works; and that my soul knoweth right well."
I find that I am drawn to this verse-- this psalm, with the same sense of wonder and awe I felt as a boy, curious to know how and why the world was as it was. I'm still like that. My first recollection of seeing this verse, though, was in a comic book called Cloak and Dagger. It was used as a pseudo subtitle-- "I am fearfully and wonderfully made..."
Now, much older and more in tune with our political culture and the issues that spring from its garden-- both wheat and tares sown in the very same field, I see the psalm and that verse as a stinging indictment of the Liberal's love of abortion. This psalm alone calls abortion murder. If God knows us before we are even formed in the womb, if our works upon the earth are already written in God's book, then to cut such a life from a woman's womb is, quite simply, murder. It is telling God, "I can't do anything to stop what You will do to me, but I can stop what You hope to do with this unborn child." It is, in essence, the work of Satan, and those who perform these 'sanctioned' murders set themselves up as anti-gods, to thwart His divine will.
Despite this, God is able and willing to forgive. And this is why I am fearfully and wonderfully made. Because God's purpose is never thwarted. He knew this child, or that child, would be murdered before birth, yet gifted these children nonetheless with living souls. We cannot know God's purpose. But He knows us, and knows we need Him, so He perseveres.
Likewise, we are only defeated if we allow the inevitable it's day unchallenged.
