Phone ringing OFF. THE. HOOK.
Just once I'd like to see the Anchors do what I've had to do this day.
Every moment was spent building graphics. Six hours! Add 1 and a half hours worth of shows, and a 30 minute dinner break, and there you have it. Eight hours of mayhem!
...Well, seven and a half.
I know you don't care, but thanks for listening nonetheless.

BenT, myself, and a few others work in the production room, which means we are the ones who deal with the look of our newscasts, whereas the newspeople and anchors deal with each show's content.
We've been fortunate in that everyone knows how to do just about everything. For myself, I build graphics, run audio, tapes, cameras, as well as the server which manages all our commercials. The one thing I don't do is direct, but that will change when we get the new digital switcher up and running. I'm capable of doing all these things but for the most part I'm strictly audio, graphics and server.
Mondays and Tuesdays are almost always hectic because I'm building graphics those days, I say 'almost' because some days there's not a lot to build, and some of what airs in the five gets repeated in the six and ten, but that wasn't the case last night.
Sitting in front of a computer all day... Mornings at home, and afternoon and evenings at the station is hard on the backside, but it allows me to stay in touch with this blog. Most nights there's a lot of down-time.
Sometimes we dub old shows like The Twilight Zone, Hawaii Five-O, and Rawhide to DVD for use on our sister stations The CW, and MyNetwork which only airs two hours of original programing a day... we fill in the rest. So we manage three stations at once.
Wow, that must be hard.
We're training a guy now on Graphics. He's catching on quickly. By the end of his first month he should be able to build keys and some fullscreens. He would need some help and there are plenty of able people for that, but he will be able to run graphics, during shows, by himself. He's got a good head on his shoulders. And I don't say that lightly, for the same couldn't be said about some we've tried to train.
Photoshop is a very useful tool. I use it at home and it's the tool I used to build the look of this blog.
