There should be a law against speaking out about the performance of others when one's own performance is judged to be worse.

Yeah. Kind of ironic, ain't it?

Maybe it's a case of "it takes one to know one."

Yes, but, dash it all, there's that pesky ol' free speech clause.

The new poll out from Newsweek places the president's approval at 26%.

Cleveland Plain Dealer: Do you think President Bush is doing a good job running the country? If you said "yes", you are in the minority. President Bush now has the second lowest rating a President in modern history has ever had at 26%.

The Newsweek poll also reveals that a record-setting 65% disapprove of him, including 1/3 of Republicans. Bush has experienced a two percent drop since the last poll was taken in May, when he had a 28% approval rating.

Jimmy Carter sunk to his low of 28% in a June 1979 Gallup poll, and Richard Nixon beat out everyone with his lowest of the low 23% approval rating in January 1974.

The Iraq war is one of the major factors bringing down the President's approval rating, with 73% of Americans disapproving of his handling of Iraq.

Bush also scores record or near record lows for all major topics, including the economy (34% approve, 60% disapprove), healthcare (28% approve, 61% disapprove), and immigration (23% approve, 63% disapprove).

Even at 26% Bush still has both Reid and Congress beat.

Generically congressional approval is always low. I think I saw a chart that showed congress hit its highpoint in the 50-60 percent range during the Watergate scandal. Usually the range is in the high-20's and 30's. The disconnect is when you look a the polling for individual members of congress, senators and representatives. Individually congress members always have high approval ratings.

President Bush on the other hand had an approval rating in the 90's. He is now barely above Pres. Nixon. That's something.

Yeah, that is something. I think that something is largely a result of constant Bush bashing by the left since the start of the war (actually since he threw his hat into the ring for his first presidential campaign.). Now, when he's actually doing something most think, and rightly so, is wrong, i.e. amnesty, it looks even worse. Despite how badly this bill is going over, it's doubtful that it alone can bring his numbers down so far. He's done a few other things I opposed, but the reality is that there is more of a balance without all the baseless stuff constantly screamed out by the left. A truer number might be closer to the low to mid 40s.

    "...baseless stuff..."

    Umm....AMEN!

Now that public opinion reflects disenchantment with a Democratic-controlled Congress, the liberal pundits are calling current opinion polls unreliable due to "pessimism caused by the war." They will spin anything, anytime, anyhwere!

Sorry i deleted above but my typos are unacceptable.

Polls can be fun when they support your view, but otherwise I ignore them.

    Reid? Pteh!
