Those set who've set aside their lives to follow in Jesus' steps.
As indicated in the Bible in places like Acts 9
Lord, I have heard from many about this man, how much harm he did to Your saints at Jerusalem...
Now as Peter was traveling through all those regions, he came down also to the saints who lived at Lydda.
Or as Paul said in Romans 1:
to all who are beloved of God in Rome, called as saints...
And again in 1 Corinthians 1:
To the church of God which is at Corinth, to those who have been sanctified in Christ Jesus, saints by calling...
Eric and Dan and the rest of God's beloved community, seems to me. I don't have as much use for the extrabiblical notion of saints being only "special" Christians.
I think it's sort of normal to think of some of our heroes of the faith as Saints, but, biblically, we all are, who follow Jesus.
